1146. James MARYE REV.

HISTORY: William settled on a farm on the Rappahannock river, in St. George's parish, Spottsylvania county, near Fredericksburg. This farm adjoinee that of Reverend James Marye, born Rouen, Normandy, d. Fdqsbg, Va., 1967 See pp. 153 and 156, and was probably a part of the battlefield of Fredericksburg. William Ficklin's name appears on the county records from 1759 to 1789. His wife Molly Marye, dau of Rev. Jas. Marye and wife, who was Letitia, dau of Rev. Staige. Molly Ma Marye b. 1722, d. abt 1759, md 1737, whose name has not been learned, probably died in early life, since she is not mentioned at all in any deed to or from her husband.

HISTORY: E-Mail from NM Kellar - goudykellar@alltel.net; August 31,2004; James Marye, b abt 1692 in Rouen, France, supposedly studied for Jesuit priesthood at "College de Bourbon" in Rouen but I haven't been able to find anything about the college, settled in VA abt. 1729 and was minister at the Manakintown Hugeunot settlement and later was Episcopal minister at St. George's Parish, Spotsylvania, Co., d. 1767-1768 in Fredericksburg, VA. First wife Letitia Mary Ann Staige, b. abt 1710 in England, d. ?.

HISTORY: One of their children, Peter Marye, b. Feg. 20, 1737, graduate of Wm. & Mary College and member of House of Burgesses in 1769, from Spotsylvania Co. VA....He married Eleanore Coleman Green Dec. 6, 1773

CONFLICT: Josephine S. Warner says he died at Westmoreland; J.J. Skinner's record says Bradford, MA.

HISTORY: Warner Manor, p. 90; Josiah Dodge Sr. had recieved a land grant (confiscated by the British from the French settlers) as a "New England Planter" in reward for his services as athe surveyor of Lordsburg, Nova Scotia.
